Void Knights Episode 1
Genre series currently in post. Graded entirely with Dark Aperture Movie Looks.
Films · Original score · Cinematic software
Dark Aperture Pictures makes films, composes their scores, and builds the tools that finish them — including Dark Aperture, a Premiere Pro film emulation plug-in with 68 authored film stocks and a DirectX 12 renderer.
Film Production
We produce character-driven films end to end — development, photography, edit, grade, and score — then grade them with our own plug-in.
Genre series currently in post. Graded entirely with Dark Aperture Movie Looks.
A contained two-hander in early development.
A neighborhood science-fiction story — anamorphic, night exteriors, practical score.
Music & Score
Composition and sound design live under the same roof as the grade. Scores are written to picture, and every cue ships with the film it belongs to.
Bespoke music for our productions and select collaborations — written, performed, and mixed to picture.
Textural, location-grounded sound design with the same discipline we bring to grain and halation.
A catalogue of cues and soundscapes is available for licensing in film, series, and trailers.
Cinematic Software
A clean-room C++20 plug-in built on the same pipeline we use to finish our own films: 68 authored film stocks, five print responses, and physical texture stages from halation to gate weave.
Developer and print responses, Filmic v2 grain, halation, bloom, diffusion, vignette, gate weave, film breath, and damage — deterministic per frame, GPU-accelerated, with a permanent CPU fallback.
Separate capture-stock and print-stock stages, tuned log-exposure contrast, toe and shoulder — not a flat Instagram filter.
Format-scaled grain, halation and bloom profiles, periodic gate weave and film breath, procedural dust and scratches.
34 visible controls, keyframeable stages, one-shot Movie Look presets, and a neutral insertion baseline that never touches footage until you do.
Clean-room C++20 core with a standalone test harness, embedded profiles, byte-reproducible builds, and hash-verified installs.
The Looks
Every tile below was rendered by the Dark Aperture pipeline from a single source frame.

The Looks in Motion
Every frame of this reel was graded in house with the plug-in — halation, grain, and gate weave included. Press play and watch the stocks move.
The Studio
Dark Aperture Pictures started the way most obsessions do: a filmmaker who wanted a specific look and couldn't buy it, so he wrote it. The plug-in came first — then the realisation that the same discipline applies to everything else we make.
Today the studio operates on one principle: the tools and the films feed each other. Scenes shot for a film become test footage for a new stock profile; a new halation model shows up in the next film's grade. Nothing here is theoretical.
Production, score, and software — developed together, released together.
